ABSTRAK :
The objective of this research is to investigate the tensile strength and composite impact with the particle booster of Mount Kelud with fly ash polyester matrix. The focus of this research is the testing composite using the particle booster of fly ash with polyester matrix using the American Society for Testing Material (ASTM) standard for the tensile testing and ASTM D 638 for the impact test of ASTM 5942-96. The composite was made by fly ash Volume 0%, 10%, 20%, 30%, and 40%. The ashes used were the Mount Kelud ashes that reached to Yogyakarta using resin polyester and catalyst polyester matrix. The method of making a particle composite testing sample was hand lay up (open mould). the test showed that the composite tensile strength using fly ash particle at the lowest volume fraction of 30% was 17.242 Mpa and the highest tensile strength at the composite of 10% ashes volume fraction was 29.906 Mpa. The impact test showed that the optimum impact strength of 10% ashes volume fraction had absorption energy of 1.794 J and the impact value of 0.00587 J/mm2. Meanwhile the 20% ashes volume fraction had absorption energy of 1.356 J and the impact value of 0.0052 J/mm2. The analysis was completed with the result of morphological structure observation using the Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM). Based on this test, it is concluded that an imperfect manufacturing process can cause void, crack, and ash sedimentation which is determined by the direct break down in the result of the SEM Keywords : polyester, fly ash, tensile strength, impact strength, morphologycal structure.
