PENINGKATAN MUTU BRIKET BATU BARA MELALUI PEMILIHAN JENIS BINDER YANG TEPAT


ABSTRAK
The Research has purposes to determine the types and content levels of appropriate binder and its
influence on combustion characteristics of coal briquettes.
The Research begins with the crushing process to create uniformity in the particle size of coal.
Subsequently making briquettes made with binder content of 10%, 20%, and 30%. After that, the raw material
of coal briquettes is mixed and stirred. The next stage, it is pressed and dried naturally in the living room about
24 hours. After that, The coal briquettes is mechanically tested to determine the tensile strength. Later It is
tested by combustion test with Controlled electric furnace. The test aims is to determine the combustion
characteristics of coal briquettes.
The results can be concluded that the burning of coal briquettes with molasses is faster than the
briquettes with asphalt binder, and the briquettes with starch. In the first minutes, the coal briquettes with
molasses binder has the rate of burning about 0.6 grams / minute, the coal briquettes with asphalt binder has
the rate of burning about 0.52 grams / minute, the coal briquettes with starch binder has the rate of burning
o about 0.32 grams / minute for the first minutes. The coal briquettes highest burning temperature is 876 C, for it
o o with asphalt binder, ,627 C for it with molasses binder, and 699 C. for it with starch binder
